PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary compressor wherein noise and an amount of oil discharge penetrating refrigerant gas are reduced. SOLUTION: A hermetic container 12 houses a motor element 14 and a rotary compression element 32 driven by the motor element 14. Refrigerant gas compressed in the rotary compression element 32 is discharged out of the hermetic container 12 via a discharge muffling chamber 62. The discharge muffling chamber 62 is stratified into one discharge muffling chamber 62A and the other discharge muffling chamber 62B, and an end of the discharge muffling chamber 62A of one stratum and one end of the discharge muffling chamber 62B of the other stratum are interconnected. The refrigerant gas from the rotary compression element 32 is delivered into the one stratum discharge muffling chamber 62A, and the refrigerant gas is then discharged out of the hermetic container 12 from the other end of the other stratum (the other end of the other discharge muffling chamber 62B).
