PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a vertical stripe-shaped nonuniformity by adjusting a rubbing processing condition. SOLUTION: The shape of sides (side ab and side cd) of an alignment layer 76 is made to be a bent shape, a sawtooth shape, a wave shape, a crank shape, etc., the amplitude of each of the shapes and alignment layer thickness are optimized. The side of an end part of the alignment layer is thereby rubbed obliquely at rubbing processing to reduce peeling off and re-attachment of the alignment layer end part 87 and the occurrence of vertical stripe-shape nonuniformity 101 caused at the rubbing processing and to obtain the display uniformity of liquid crystal display.
