PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a workpiece transporting device equipped with a crossbar shift that has a light weight and a sufficient followup ability relative to a press, that has the ability of positioning with high accuracy, and that enables a shift quantity to be set optionally. SOLUTION: The workpiece transporting device for a press is equipped with a crossbar (7) which is installed orthogonally to the workpiece transporting direction and which is provided with a workpiece holding means (9) capable of holding a workpiece. In this transporting device, the workpiece holding means (9) installed at least in one crossbar (7) is made freely movable along the longitudinal direction of the crossbar (7). Further, the device is equipped with a linear motor (17) for movably driving the workpiece holding means (9) and with a controller (14) for controlling the linear motor (17) synchronously with and/or independently of the operation of the press.
