PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which erroneous operation of a user can be prevented and the user can operate setting of the printer depending on the state of the printer. SOLUTION: The printer comprises an operating means through which a user sets the printer, and a means for controlling a specified function of the operating means to become effective or ineffective according to specified conditions. The control means controls the specified function of the operating means to become effective or ineffective according to first conditions and controls the specified function of the operating means to become effective or ineffective according to second conditions upon occurrence of a specified event.
