PURPOSE: A display device and its control method are provided to display notification messages on a monitor by using an OSD/OSG(On Screen Display/On Screen Graphic) so that it can enhance a usability of a monitor. CONSTITUTION: The device, namely a monitor(200), comprises an interface(21), an AD converter(22), a signal processor(23), a storage(24), a timer(25), a controller(26), an OSD/OSG generator(27), a composition device(28) and an output module(29). The interface(21), connected to an interface(14) of a computer system(100), receives the data transmitted by the computer system(100). The AD converter(22) converts the analog image data, transmitted by a graphic card(13) of the computer system(100), into the digital signals. The signal processor(23) processes the digital signals, and then outputs them to the output module(29). The storage(24) stores messages transmitted via the interface(21). The timer(25) offers the current time data by using a real time clock. The OSD/OSG generator(27) generates an OSD/OSG screen on the message. The controller(26) periodically checks the messages stored at the storage(24), and controls the OSD/OSG generator for generating the OSD/OSG screen on the message corresponding to the current time. The composition device(28) composes the OSD/OSG screen with the image data.
