<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical parts which control the plane of polarization of light by changing a Faraday rotating angle like an optical attenuator, optical switch or polarization controller, etc., permit the use of magnetic circuits of small electric power consumption, are small in size, and can suppress the insertion loss of a Faraday rotator to a smaller level. <P>SOLUTION: The optical parts are composed to have the Faraday rotator 1 formed of a garnet single crystal and magnetic circuits (12 and 14) for impressing the external magnetic field H smaller than the saturated magnetic field Hs of the Faraday rotator 1 to the Faraday rotator 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
