PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system for an automobile, in which data to be written in a hard disk drive is written in a backup storage means, only when it is required to write the data in the backup storage means in advance of writing the data to the hard disk drive. SOLUTION: In the navigation system, a microcomputer 40 writes registration location data to an HDD 60 according to a request for writing to the HDD 60 by operation of a remote controller 20. When there is a write error in the HDD 60 and the temperature of the HDD 60 is not maintained within the range of normal operation temperature, the registration location data is written in a backup memory 50, and after the writing if the temperature of the HDD 60 is maintained in the normal operation temperature, the registration location data already written to the backup memory 50 is written to the HDD 60.
