PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely determine a position of a mobile unit in a cellular communication network or the like, without increasing calculation amount for modeling propagation time while minimizing also additional cost. SOLUTION: This system is provided with a plurality of base stations transmitting a known signal at a prescribed time, a plurality of additional fixed position units (AFPU) 26, a means installed in the AFPU 26 which determines the arrival time of the known signal from the respective base stations 20, a timing determination unit 25 installed in a mobile unit 24 which determines the arrival time of the known signal from the respective base stations. Each AFPU 26 derives its own position by a positioning radio wave from a GPS satellite 21. The position of the mobile unit 24 is determined by a reception timing difference between the AFPU 26 and the mobile unit 24, and the position of the AFPU 26. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
