PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emission element with excellent durability and high light emission efficiency and light emission brightness which can be effectively utilized for a plane light source such as a full color display, a back light and a light source for illumination and a light source array of a printer or the like. SOLUTION: The light emission element has a transparent anode; an organic compound layer including at least a light emission layer; a cathode; and a moisture/oxygen absorption layer of at least one layer contacting with the cathode. The light emission element is characterized in that the moisture/oxygen absorption layer comprises a material which is reacted with a moisture content at ordinary temperature to generate hydrogen and is reacted with oxygen at normal temperature.
