PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for removing an expansion joint device in which the chipping works of concrete are minimized and removal works are quickened and the generation of vibrations, noises and particular matter is suppressed minimally when the expansion joint device installed on a concrete floor slab is removed. SOLUTION: The concrete floor slab containing a range to be removed in the expansion joint device is cut out in an approximately rectangular parallelopiped block by an abrasive water jet. Sections projected from the end sections of the concrete floor slabs in the expansion joint device are cut off, an abrasive water-jet injection nozzle is charged into an opening between the mutual end sections of the concrete floor slabs from the opening after a cut-off, the direction of high-pressure water supplied from the vertical direction is changed, and the abrasive water jet is injected in the bridge axial direction. A periphery after the block is removed is chipped by the water jet, and reinforcing bars are exposed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
