PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction hardening apparatus for precisely and efficiently hardening a cylinder block.

SOLUTION: This induction hardening apparatus comprises a fixed work table 11 for mounting the cylinder block, a mobile position-measuring means 31 capable of measuring simultaneously several positions of the cylinder, and one or more mobile heating coils 23. The hardening method comprises measuring the position of the work cylinder with the position measuring means 31, placing the heating coil 23 at the spot to be quenched of the predetermined cylinder on the basis of measured coordinate values, and heating and quenching the inner surface of the cylinder.
