PURPOSE: A protecting device for a driver is provided to protect the body of the driver by preventing the ankle or the shin of the driver from being injured against the brake pedal with separating a second pedal arm from a first pedal arm. CONSTITUTION: A protecting device for a driver comprises a first pedal arm(30) combined with a pedal mounting bracket(11) and a push rod(15) connected to a brake booster with turning; a brake switch(40) contacted to the first pedal arm, and separated and turned on in rotating the first pedal arm; a pedal arm switch(50) fixed to the first pedal arm, and contacted to the push rod and turned on in rotating the first pedal arm; a second pedal arm(70) selectively separated from the first pedal arm by a pedal arm separation unit(60); and an electronic control unit(80) controlling the pedal arm separation unit to separate the second pedal arm from the first pedal arm according to operation of the pedal arm switch and the brake switch.
