Useful power measurer for engine esp. in commercial vehicle - measures torque exerted by electromagnet of eddy current brake

An arrangement for measuring the useful power of engines contains an eddy current brake (1). At least one plate (2) fixed to the engine shaft is braked in the field of an electro-magnet rotatable w.r.t the engien shaft. The torque exerted by the electromagnet is measured via a lever arm (3) connected to a coil body (6). The eddy current brake has at least two magnetic coils (7) on the coil body which is concentric about a coupling shaft. USE/ADVANTAGE - Rapid, reliable, accurate measurement of useful engine power in-situ, esp. in lorries, omnibuses and agricultural vehicles.
