The present invention provides for an integrated injection device (500) having a syringe (550) with a proximal end, a distal end, a needle (556) for administering a therapeutic agent, and a plunger (553) . The injection device also includes a guard (592) slidable on the syringe (550) and having a proximal end, a distal end, and being biased between a first and second position. The injection device (500) includes first and second sets of cooperating detents for retaining the guard in the first and second positions, respectively. A latch extension (574) extends proximally from the guard (592) and is engageable by the plunger (553) to release the first set of cooperating detents. A spring element biases the guard between the first and second positions relative to the syringe (550) . Methods for using the injection devices of the present invention are also provided. |
