A refrigeration cycle connecting a variable capacity compressor (20), a condenser (27), a restriction mechanism, and evaporators (14, 16) sequentially and employing a hydrocarbon based refrigerant is provided in the refrigerator body (1). The compressor (20) is driven at high speed (S3) after power-on and switched to normal control (S5) after elapsing a specified time (S4). The refrigerator comprises the refrigeration cycle connecting the compressor (20), the condenser (27), the restriction mechanism, the evaporators (14, 16), an accumulator (34), and the like, sequentially, sensors (55, 56) for detecting the temperature at the inlet and outlet of the evaporators (14, 16), and a fan (19) for cooling the compressor (20), wherein the cooling fan is stopped (S16) when the difference between a temperature detected by the inlet temperature sensor (55) and a temperature detected by the outlet temperature sensor (56) exceeds a specified level (S14). A refrigerator exhibiting a high initial cooling performance after turning on power, for example, even when using a hydrocarbon based refrigerant requiring a small refrigerant-filled quantity and dissolving easily into refrigerating machine oil, is thereby obtained, and incomplete cooling due to stagnant refrigerant staying in the compressor (20) or the condenser (27) is prevented. |
