The vehicle door, especially for mass prodn. automobiles, has a swing limit stop (10) between the axis (A) of the door hinge (4) and the zone of the door panel (6,8) away from the hinge. A mechanism holds the door against a swing movement, when the door is open, and is triggered to close the door using a hydraulic or mechanical door closing stop (24,26,30).
