PURPOSE: A humidity-reducing material for a poly(vinyl alcohol)-based hygroscope and a method for preparing a humidity-reducing film by using the humidity-reducing material are provided, to improve the resistance to moisture without deterioration of the humidity sensing power of a hydrophilic organic polymer material. CONSTITUTION: The humidity-reducing material comprises a crosslinked product obtained by crosslinking poly(vinyl alcohol) with any one selected from the group consisting of sodium m-benzene disulfonate, sodium p-styrenesulfonate and poly(acrylic acid), in the presence of an alkaline earth metal or transition metal chloride or its hydrate. Preferably the alkaline earth metal or transition metal chloride or its hydrate is selected from the group consisting of FeCl2, LiCl, NaCl, KCl, MgCl2, CuCl2, CoCl2 and their hydrates.
