PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely correct errors of a short wavelength optical disk. SOLUTION: In recording, a C1 and C2 ECC adding section 151 forms a C1 ECC and C2 ECC and adds the same to target data. A C3 ECC adding section 152 computes and forms a C3 ECC in accordance with the data added with the C1 ECC and the C2 ECC supplied from the C1 and C2 ECC adding section 151 and adds the same to the data. When the error occurs in the reproduced data in reproducing, a C1 and C2 ECC correcting section 154 performs error correction processing in accordance with the C1 ECC and the C2 ECC. In case of a failure in the correction of the error, a C3 ECC correcting section 155 performs the error correction processing in accordance with the C3 ECC.
