<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device with improved display brightness in particular in a transmissive mode and with excellent visibility. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 20 is the transflective liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal layer 25 sandwiched between an upper substrate 24 and a lower substrate 23 placed opposite to each other, provided with a cholesteric liquid crystal layer 35 consisting of cholesteric liquid crystal layers 36r, 36g, 36b, a pigment color filter layer 34 having pigment layers 33r, 33g, 33b and a transflective layer 30 consisting of cholesteric liquid crystal layers 29r, 29g, 29b on the inner surface side of the lower substrate 23 in this order from the lower substrate side and provided with a backlight 22. A light shielding film is not disposed in the cholesteric liquid crystal layer 35. A light shielding film 31 is disposed in the transflective layer 30.
