<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an extract of Acanthopanax senticosus Harms whereby foreign matters can be efficiently removed and drug efficacy components can be effectively purified; and an extract of Acanthopanax senticosus Harms from which a product containing drug efficacy components in a high content can be easily produced. <P>SOLUTION: The extract of Acanthopanax senticosus Harms contains drug efficacy components, i.e., eleutherosides E and B represented by formulas 1 and 2 (wherein Me is methyl; and R is glucosyl), the sum of contents (dry basis) of these components being 4 wt.% or higher, preferably 10 wt.% or higher. This extract is produced by extracting Acanthopanax senticosus Harms with a hydrophilic solvent and subjecting the resultant extracted solution to adsorption with a hydrophobic adsorbent followed by purification by desorption with an organic solvent. Preferably, the purification is conducted after a hydrophobic component in the extracted solution is transferred into a hydrophobic organic solvent to be removed from the solution.
