摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device in which bright display is obtained at the time of a transmission mode, its visibility is excellent and its thickness is made thin. <P>SOLUTION: In this transflective liquid crystal display device 10, a liquid crystal layer 16 is held between an upper substrate 14 and a lower substrate 13, a transflective layer 18 is provided on the lower substrate 13 and a back light 12 is provided on the outer part of the lower substrate 13. Then, an upper polarizing plate 36 is provided on the outer surface side of the upper substrate 14, a lower polarizing plate 28 is provided on the outer surface side of the lower substrate 13, and a phase difference layer 20 having the phase difference of 1/4 wavelength is successively provided only in a reflection display area R on the inner surface side of the lower substrate 13. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
