<p>A honeycomb structural body (1), comprising a cell structural part (2) having a plurality of cells (6) partitioned by partition walls (4) in a honeycomb shape to form flow passages allowing fluid to flow therein and outer walls (3) disposed on the outer peripheral surfaces (7) of the cell structural part (2), characterized in that an outermost peripheral cells (9) of the cell structural part (2) and a specified quantity of cells positioned on the inside of the outermost peripheral cell among the cells (6) are sealed by the inner peripheral surfaces of the outer walls (3) at the axial end parts and/or intermediate parts of at least either thereof to form shielded cells (11), whereby a temperature rising time for the cell structural part (2) after the start of the operation can be shortened, and a catalytic activity can be increased in a short time when a catalyst is carried on the structural body.</p> |
