A process and device for the treatment of waste water from the wet dedusting of shredders ensure the environmentally acceptable removal of the foreign substances in a substantially continuous waste water circuit. For this purpose the waste water circuit is first treated to separate coarse foreign substance components, whereafter fine, sedimenting foreign substances and the buoyant and non-buoyant substances are separated and finally a dewatered material with a relatively high dry substance content of >55 % is produced, the continuous circuit consisting of a main (8) and a second circuit (9).
