Method to compensate for pattern distortion on sheet-type work material spread onto a support surface

The captured images of areal portions of a work material (26) spread on a support (14), are projected on a display (30) and mapped to determine distortion in work material. The images are undistorted by a controller (18), over which the undistorted digital representation of patterns are positioned. The geometry of the patterns is distorted corresponding to the actual pattern distortion.
