The binding device uses a wire coil (44), a rotary insertion device (56) for fitting the coil wire in aligned edge perforations in the stacked sheets and a guide device (42,43) for guiding the wire coil in a longitudinal direction during its insertion in the perforations. The guide device is provided by cooperating rollers, incorporating longitudinally spaced magnets (58), defining a guide channel for the wire coil, assisted by a peg rail (60) positioned between the rollers.
