C-7450 METHOD OF TREATING ASBESTOS DIAPHRAGMS FOR ELECTROLYTIC CELLS Asbestos diaphragms in commercial cells for the electrolysis of brines are treated with a dispersion of an alkaline earth metal-containing silicate. Deposition of the dispersion within the diaphragm results in a decrease in hydrogen concentration in chlorine gas produced as well as an increase in current efficiency.
