PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for planting so structured that the balance of drainage, water retainability and fertilizer retainability can be properly kept, and outdoor culture can be efficiently managed without generating wastes. SOLUTION: The material for planting comprises dehulled palm fruit pressed in the direction perpendicular to the fiber direction and cut into a stick shape so as to be parallel to the fiber direction. The material contains tannin at≤0.5 wt.% based on a dried material for planting. The stick body has an almost square cross section 2-15 mm on each side, and has the length of 3-15 cm which is in≥4 times as long as the length of the longer side of the cross section.
