PURPOSE: An ETC(Electronic Toll Collection) settlement system and a method thereof using electronic money are provided to reduce the dimension of a vehicle mounting device by connecting to a local server through a communication network to pay for toll with the electronic money. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle mounting device(100) is mounted on a vehicle to receive and transmit vehicle information and ETC settlement information by using a local area dedicated radio communication. A base station(300) is comprised of a high frequency unit and a control unit in a body. The high frequency unit installed on a road to perform the local area dedicated radio communication with the vehicle mounting device(100). The control unit controls the vehicle mounting device(100) by using the data received from/transmitted to the high frequency unit and transmits the vehicle information and the settlement information to a higher level system. A vehicle kind discriminating unit(200) is installed on a toll gate to scan the height, width, and size of the vehicle and determines kind of the vehicle. An ETC system(110) is connected to the vehicle kind discriminating unit(200) and the base station(300) to control an automatic settlement. A local server is connected to the ETC system(110) through a communication network to control a settlement operation by information with respect to the automatic settlement. |
