<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network device of which the resistance against a network failure is enhanced by providing an optical transceiver of a high-speed line with redundancy. <P>SOLUTION: In the network device 100 that is connected with the high-speed line 112 that uses light as a transmission medium and a plurality of low-speed lines 110, multiplexes communication of the low-speed line 110 and communicates with the high-speed line 112, it is constituted by providing a plurality of optical transceivers 104, 105 capable of outputting optical signals to the high-sped line 112 and so that an optical transceiver used for the communication is made selectable among a plurality of the optical transceivers 104, 105.
