PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow communication equipment itself to check a dialing number which is instructed to do and to automatically add an adaptive number if necessary in the communication equipment connected to a telephone line and for dialing. SOLUTION: In the equipment connected to the telephone line and for performing data communication, for example, in a modem device 20, a program of a DSP (digital signal processing) 5 checks a dialing number instructed from a host for controlling the modem 20, checks whether a predesignated particular number string is attached to the first part of the instructed dialing number, dials the instructed dialing number as it is if the number exists, and automatically adds the number string to the first part of the number to dial the number if the number does not exist. An operation condition for the predesignated particular number string and a table for number setting are registered in a RAM 9, and the RAM 9 is provided with a working area for processing the operation condition and the table and a command buffer from the host.
