<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium for recording/reproducing information and capable of recording/reproducing information with a large capacity with a high density by decreasing an effective beam diameter. <P>SOLUTION: The optical recording medium is configured to have a substrate 1 that is transparent with respect to a layer beam whose wavelength ranges from 350 nm to 480 nm and an organic thin film layer 2 having a nonlinear optical absorbing performance with respect to the laser wavelength range so that a very small spot in excess of a diffraction limit is attained even when the wavelength of a laser light source for recording/reproducing information ranges from 350 nm to 480 nm resulting in decreasing an effective beam diameter.
