PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable deletion, addition, or the like of pages while confirming all the pages of the stored document by reducing the images in a filing system. SOLUTION: A reduced image of the first page of each stored document is generated. When a user specifies a document and requests thumbnail display of the second and following pages of the document, a thumbnail generation means 211 generates the reduced images thereof and displays them on a PC 101 and stores then in a storage means 204. When the user specifies a page to be deleted in accordance with the displayed thumbnail images, the image of this page is deleted from the file. When the user specifies a page to be inserted in accordance with the displayed thumbnail images and specifies another document from thumbnail display for document list display to request insertion of the page, the specified document is inserted following the specified page to be inserted.
