PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit breaker capable of shutting off a heavy current by a system for exhausting high temperature and high pressure gas. SOLUTION: This circuit breaker has two contacts 1, 2 whose boundary is set by a blast nozzle 3 and which are arranged in a shut-off space containing dielectric gas. Furthermore, it has a thermal blast chamber 4 communicating with an expanded space 15 through an exhaust passage 10' constituted in such a way that it is communicated with the shut-off space through an air passage 3' of the nozzle and it is closed by a valve 10. The valve is opened when pressure in the thermal blast chamber 4 exceeds a specific threshold value to exhaust high pressure gas from the chamber. The exhaust passage 10' is formed in the nozzle 3 and follows a substantial shape of the nozzle 3 within thickness of the nozzle to specify annular volume opened into the expanded space 15 which is on the downstream side of the shut-off space concerning the air passage 3'.
