PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measurement method of a minute article such as a gear, a pulley or a sprocket of a small module and to provide a device therefor. SOLUTION: The gear 21 is supported by fitting, from one side of a through- hole 22, a small-diameter shaft 6 projected from a three-claw chuck device 2. By setting a tip 6A of the small-diameter shaft 6 as a free end with the other side of the gear 21 released, the gear 21 is measured by a measurement means 8. Since the other side of the gear 21 is not stopped by a stopping part like a conventional one, external force is not applied to the small-diameter shaft 6, and the small-diameter shaft 6 is never bent, so that the gear 21 can correctly be measured by setting it on a spindle 5.
