The engine is charged by a crankshaft-driven compressor (5) with its inlet connected via a throttle valve (6) to the air filter housing (8) and its outlet via a charge air cooler (4) and a throttle valve (3) to the induction manifold (2). Combustion air is supplied at all load regions via the compressor. Pressure and volume flow are adjustable by the throttle valves.
