<p>A method and apparatus for classifying emissions using measurements proportional to the concentration of a plural number of constituents of the emission. Features of a line of best fit between points in a multi-dimensional space in which each dimension represents the concentration of a particular constituent and each point corresponds to the measurement relating to the concentration of the constituents at the same time are used to categorise emissions according to predetermined classification criteria. The classification criteria may be derived from training emissions and may be developed while the apparatus is in use, thereby enabling an emission to be classified relative to those previously measured.</p> |
