A rotor structure for an AC powered fan has a stack of pressed pole piece rings (10) each with inward facing pole profiles (12) and with angled slots in the outer edges. The outer slots align into sloping profiles when the rings are stacked and form sockets for the bases of the fan blades. The blades are located into the slots and secured by spot welding. The rings are additionally provided with slots (13) for a simple alignment aid.
