PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve drying property of a recording material while maintaining good paper feeding property and paper passing property in a printing device by forming a functional face different from a water swellable resin face on a non-printing face. SOLUTION: This material for recording consists of a substrate 1, a surface layer 3 laminated on the printing face of the substrate 1, and a functional face 5 different from a water-swellable resin face on the non-printing face. As for the substrate 1, a material having water resistance consisting of a transparent plastic film or a film converted into opaque by addition of inorganic fine particles is preferably used. The surface layer 3 formed on the printing face consists of a water-swellable resin and prepared by crosslinking a water-soluble resin. The water-soluble resin is modified with ions to improve the hydrophilicity and to increase the swelling rate of the surface layer 3. The functional face 5 different from the water-swellable resin face is formed on the non-printing face, and a friction controlling function is added to the face 5. By forming the plane having a function to control the coefficient of friction, the drying property can be improved while the good paper feeding property and paper pausing property in a printing device is maintained.
