PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a display device equipped with a reflection type liquid crystal panel even when sufficient external light can not be obtained and to view the liquid crystal screen of the reflection type liquid crystal panel not through the light guide plate of the front light when the sufficient external light is obtained. SOLUTION: The front light is constituted by fitting the light guide plate 2 and a light source 3 to a frame-shaped housing 1 and this front light is provided with an attaching and detaching means 7. This attaching and detaching means 7 is used to connect the front light detachably to the display device A equipped with the reflection type liquid crystal panel. The front light is thus connected to the display device A, which can be used even if sufficient external light can not be obtained. When the sufficient external light is obtained, on the other hand, the front light is detached from the display device and then the liquid crystal screen of the reflection type liquid crystal panel can be viewed not through the light guide plate 2 and becomes easy to see.
