Preparation of L-amino acids (I), especially threonine, by fermenting a (I)-producing member of the Enterobacteriaceae in which at least one of the genes aldA, aldB, aldH and betB is enhanced, particularly overexpressed. (I) is enriched in cells or medium and is recovered with some or all of the biomass retained in the product. An Independent claim is also included for microorganisms of the family Enterobacteriaceae, especially Escherichia in which at least one of the genes aldA, aldB, aldH and betB is enhanced, particularly overexpressed.
