A starting device (1) for a motor vehicle has a linking element for directional choice which locks closing elements (5) in the rest position and unlocks in the start position. A release device (20,21) uses an electromagnetic signal and a key locking device (39) permits starting in the chosen direction. An Independent claim is also included for a starting process for the device above.
