<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support body for a planographic plate in which printing stain properties are improved, stains at a non-image part is eliminated, a large number of sheets of the printed matter without stains and with high quality can be obtained, and the resistance to cutting by gripping is high, and an original plate for the planographic plate using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The support body for the planographic plate is composed by having the hydrophilic surface in which a hydrophilic graft polymer chain exists on a metal substrate with a modulus of longitudinal elasticity of 8×10<SP>4</SP>N/mm<SP>2</SP>or more.
