A magnetic recording medium comprising: a support; a subbing layer comprising a radiation-curable resin; a nonmagnetic layer comprising a nonmagnetic powder and a binder; and at least one magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a binder, in this order, wherein the subbing layer has a thickness of from 0.05 to 1.0 mum, and the nonmagnetic powder has an average acicular ratio of 8 or more and has a form of a raft.
