The invention relates to a method for disposing a helical compression spring (12) that comprises at least one spring support (14, 16) on which the final coil rests whose diameter is different from that of the subsequent spring coils (18, 20) and at least one further spring coil (22, 24) comes to rest upon the spring support when the spring is compressed. The inventive method is particularly used for wheel suspensions of motor vehicles. In order to achieve substantially equal spring rates irrespective of the work tolerances of the springs, the spring supports have different configurations and are associated with the respective springs.
