Method for detection of a pole reversal in a signal encoder (12) that generates positive and negative half oscillations per sampling event has the following steps: determination of first and second threshold values for evaluation of positive and negative half oscillations of the generated signal; generation of a square wave analysis signal; determination of the time duration between reaching of the two threshold values; comparison of the measured value with a stored value; and determination of whether there has been a pole reversal. The invention also relates to a corresponding device and computer program for implementation of the method.
