Cryptographic method (20) in which cryptographic program fragments (12) stored in source code memory (3) are converted into machine code (5) using a compiler (4) with a source-code password (1) used to put the fragments in sequence. The resulting machine code stored in memory (6) can be subsequently altered by access using a second password (11).
