PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic resin pellet of which the characteristics of bulk density and a manner of spread on the occasion of being thrown into a silo or the like are proper and stable and which is excellent in handling properties in various processes. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin pellet is shaped like an elliptic plate and simultaneously satisfies formula (I) a/b≥1.8 and formula (II) d/(a+b)≤0.74 when the length of the major axis of the ellipse is denoted by a, the length of the minor axis thereof by b and the thickness thereof by d. By shaping the pellet in this way, the thermoplastic resin pellet of which the manner of spread on the occasion of being thrown into the silo or the like from above is good, which is excellent in the efficiency of transport and storage and of which the bulk density is proper and stable can be simply obtained and can be used suitably for manufacture of various molded articles, beginning with fibers and films.
