<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inventory management system which enables efficient buying-in and use of various articles, such as commodities, which are different from each other in persons authorized for use thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The inventory management system 10 comprises: a carrying-in/out management means 13 of managing the carrying-in/out of various articles based on the information on carrying-in and carrying-out of the articles; an inventory memorizing means 14 of memorizing the inventory information on the articles; a monitoring means 15 of monitoring the use states and the like of the articles; an attribute changing means 16 of changing, based on the information received from the monitoring means 15, the attribute of inventory articles to common articles without any authority for use thereof; and an access management means 12 of offering the inventory information in response to an access request via a network and accepting an input operation of a carrying-out request and the like. By the system 10, articles which have not been used for a predetermined period can be changed to common articles that anybody can be freely used.
