PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an address setting device, etc., capable of appropriately setting an address for communication. SOLUTION: A personal computer 3 requests a MAC address from a device on a LAN with SNMP broadcasting. Various devices including a printer connected to the LAN return their own MAC address together with their IP address in response to this request. The personal computer 3 which has received these replies displays MAC addresses wherein a returned IP address is a default address before shipping and MAC addresses whose address is within the range between 169. 254. 1. 0 and 169. 254. 254. 255, which is an address within a range set by an APIPA (automatic private IP addressing) in a dialog. When an address to be set about the printer with a MAC address selected among the displayed MAC addresses by a user is inputted, the personal computer 3 broadcasts the inputted address to the LAN with the SNMP to make the printer 10 with the selected MAC address set the address.
