PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide device and method for transferring a panel workpiece suitable for preventing takeout of the panel workpiece without increasing cost. SOLUTION: This device transfers the panel workpiece W by a handling robot 1, while positioning the panel workpiece W. A transfer destination device 2 is provided with an engaging means 27 engaging to a hole or an edge of the panel workpiece W from a panel surface direction. The handling robot 1 separates the panel workpiece W by releasing holding of the panel workpiece W after engaging the engaging means 27 to the hole or the edge of the panel workpiece W by moving the panel workpiece W in the panel surface direction on the transfer destination device 2.
